Patrick Muir, a partner at Muir Patent Law, has worked with patents for over 25 years. The latter half of his career has focused on licensing and strategic patent procurement, often in the high-tech electronics industry. He has negotiated patent licenses involving many of the world’s largest electronics companies, including Qualcomm, Motorola, Lucent, Freescale, Agere, Honeywell, OnSemi, Samsung Electronics, Hitachi, TI, AMD, Toshiba, Matsushita and STMicro, as well as many smaller companies.
Mr. Muir provides a wide variety of patent counseling services to his clients, including:
- negotiation of patent licenses and patent acquisitions,
- pre-litigation preparation,
- patent litigation support, and
- validity and infringement related analysis and opinions.

Prior to establishing his firm in 2005, Mr. Muir was in-house counsel to Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., where he managed Samsung’s U.S. based patent litigations for Samsung’s semiconductor and liquid display business units, as well as negotiated patent license agreements on behalf of Samsung with competitors, universities and non-practicing entities. Mr. Muir has significant experience in semiconductor, telecommunication and consumer electronics technologies, including semiconductor manufacturing, memories, microprocessors, LEDs, CMOS image sensors, wireless networks (Wi-Fi, wireless mesh), wireless communications (OFDM, CDMA), smart cards, optical waveguides, etc. Mr. Muir’s early career included experience as a patent examiner and patent associate at D.C. area law firms.
